Having trouble already!

Hi everyone! I'm joining a little late but I'm not wasting time in encountering problems! I did 9 rows of the pattern, realized I made a mistake, took my work off the needles (which I bought for the project and hate - but I digress) and thought I would slip it on since it looked HUGE. I was right. I'm making the second size (39" bust) but it was big, big, big. I'm hesitant to cast on again for the smallest size, though, because I actually have a 40.5" bust. What to do?

I am scared now, with the problems that you are having with sizing. Perhaps I should start again with a smaller size. I have been delayed by other urgent knitting and have only done a couple of repeats so far.

I'm scared too, because my bust is 33.5 inches. I can't go smaller than small! In a way, I expected the lace to be looser than the stockinette, but what I'm reading here scares me.

I'm curious, anyone did a swatch of the lace pattern and got the lace gauge? Or if you had to switch needle sizes?

In any case, I know I'm off gauge for the lace pattern as my tank so far is a little long (more than the 7" expected). Not even going to address the circumference part yet.

I'm going to wait on what to do 'til I do at least an 1" of the St st section so I can try it on as I've already done the decrease row.

For those who try theirs on after the lace and find it larger than wanted: you could do more evenly spaced decreases than the pattern indicates in rows 1 and 3 of the Lotus Lace Pattern (before you get to the stockinette stitch). You could do enough decreases over those two rounds to switch down a size.

As I posted on an earlier date, I'm making my decreases after the armhole BO and converting mine from the 39" size to the 33.75" size. I've completed 5 lace repeats and about 1.5" of stockinette. My tank measured about 17.5" flat across the lace, or 35" total in circumference. For my chest, this works. So, that's why I'm going to wait to do mods (for my narrow shoulders) until after the 3" of stockinette. See my blog for specifics:

I just frogged mine for the second time (due to an error i thought I could ignore and couldn't) and it did seem huge. I am doing the 39 inch size and I have a 38 inch bust. I am guilty of not having done a swatch of the lace and I suspect that is my problem. I think I am going to have to go with a smaller needle for the lace. Or should I make the smallest size and do short rows at the bust if needed?
